BCM122 - Freakiness and fun, assorted clips

(5:33) Various levels and difficulties. My eighth 'freakiness and fun' compilation shows 22 freaky or amusing incidents, many of which occurred while recording footage for my usual movies - so you may recognize some of the situations.

Released January 5th 2015, gameplay recorded 2011-2014.

Commentary

00:02 (It was going so well) In this spiral path megabattle using a path base defence, things were going rather well until a Hunter shot sailed in. But of course, I should've known better than to stand near four loose plasmas. Did you spot 'em? July 2014 footage from when I was recording for BCM110. Level 5, Heroic.

00:21 (Path entry blitz) This clip illustrates a new tactic I hit on for the path entrance area of SC, for kill 'em all speed runs. The first grenade - a plasma - is deliberately aimed to fall down off the tree, to hopefully kill the Elite. But in this case I saw that he wasn't too close to where the plasma would go off, so I added a frag and I think that's what kills him. Most of the guards are killed before they know what's what. September 2014 footage from when I was doing a kill-em-all speed run. Level 4, Heroic.

00:40 (Plasma dodge) Getting clear of the covie mob in this dustbowl megabattle, I hear a few plasma pistols firing after I'm spotted, and I dodge the plasma balls without looking. They make a nice sight, sailing past. I knew that not much dodging was needed. I was quite distant, so they weren't going to home very strongly. September 2013 footage from when I was recording for BCM82. Level 3, Normal.

00:53 (Not so funny) Instead of rocketing this approaching Ghost directly, I thought I'd try something different. I'd rocket the rock, to destroy the Ghost with the blast. The only trouble was, the blast wasn't close enough. All I did was send the Ghost into a corkscrew and get myself splattered. The pilot found it very amusing of course. March 2014 footage from when I was recording for BCM98. Level 5, Heroic.

01:08 (Bad dive) Heading through the rocks, a Grunt appears to do an unusually high dive, straight into the path of the hog. Actually he got deflected up off one of his buddies. In total I splattered six covies here; five Grunts and a Jackal. September 2013 footage from when I was recording for BCM85. Level 2, Heroic.

01:22 (Lend me your shield) After dropping down off the Grunt hill, a Jackal gives me a spot of cover with his shield, intercepting a plasma ball from one of his buddies. That was nice of him eh? September 2014 footage from a few minutes after the 'Path entry blitz' shown earlier. Level 4, Heroic.

01:38 (Side tag) On the first bridge I zap the Banshee with my plasma rifle then get the job finished with a nice tag. March 2014 footage during a kill 'em all speed run with covie weapons. Level 5, Legendary.

01:51 (Hog squash) In this far area defence in a rockslide megabattle, a blue Elite gets finished off by a hog falling on his head, courtesy of my frag. April 2014 footage. Level 2, Heroic.

02:04 (Team up) After smacking a Grunt, a Hunter finishes the job for me in spectacular fashion - and subsequently gets rebuked by another Grunt. June 2014 footage from when I was recording for BCM106. Level 4, Legendary.

02:17 (Slow starter) When I came over to this Grunt in the cavern (on the near side on the left), he was already awake but oddly didn't attack. I started recording a few seconds after I realized his odd passivity. After a while he starts running off, and eventually attacks. I don't recall getting this behaviour from any of the dozing Shade gunners before. October 2014 footage from when I was doing a kill 'em all run with pistol and plasma pistol. Level 5, Legendary.

02:42 (Fatal frag) I successfully destroy the Banshee with a frag blast, but the airborne wreck veers my way and just keeps on coming! No escape for me - and the blast killed a Marine too. Oh dear. January 2013 footage from when I was recording for BCM65. Level 2, Legendary.

02:54 (Clumsy red) After throwing a few plasma grenades, I head across the glass walkway and encounter a red Elite who comically steps into the void. Maybe he was a bit too focused on the cyborg eh? March 2014 footage during a kill 'em all speed run with covie weapons. Level 5, Legendary.

03:02 (Extinction event) On this speedy ascent through the main facility, I manage to wipe out all four of these Jackals with a single rocket. Enjoyed that! Of course, sometimes they're not even all there, let alone close enough together. June 2014 footage from when I was recording for BCM106. Level 4, Legendary.

03:09 (Elite powwow) While whizzing through the level to check out something to do with the final outdoor area, I encountered the two door Elites still in their passage. I'd had a checkpoint not long ago, so I started recording, and reverted a bunch of times to get footage of plays. This was the best one. The cloaked Elite who eventually turns up was from the underpass. And incidentally, that is how you spell powwow, according to my dictionary. No hyphen. October 2014 footage. Level 5, Easy.

03:36 (Stacker wimps out) Heading off the cliff in the hog, I give it a bit of spin for stabilization so we'll hopefully land on our wheels, but it's all too much for Stacker. After screaming there's a short pause, then a kind of whimper. Not sure I'd heard that before. I've been holding this clip back because I thought sometime I might do a whole movie on driving the hog off that cliff, and this clip could've been part of it. I still might; but meanwhile here's the clip anyway. I wanted to show it. January 2013 footage from when I was recording for BCM65. Level 2, Legendary.

03:54 (Copycats) Up in the Hunter chamber during an attempted speedy ascent, I notice a couple of Jackal bodies in rather similar poses on the side. An amusing sight I thought. June 2014 footage from when I was recording for BCM106. Level 4, Legendary.

04:07 (Overshoot) Remember the end of BCM46 when I ejected a Shade gunner onto a rock? Here's an out-take in which he overshoots and lands on the other side. I thought it looked cute. February 2012 footage from when I was recording for BCM46. Level 5, Heroic.

04:18 (Dubious backup) In this brief clip from battling Banshees on the cliffside hilltop, I was amused by how the Marine replies to Johnson "Alright mate I'm right behind you" while also pointing his rifle straight at Johnson's head. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't find that offer of backup all that reassuring! January 2013 footage from when I was recording for BCM65. Level 2, Legendary.

04:24 (Wall hugger) During an augmented ascent fight akin to what I was doing in BCM106, I do some decent work in the top room, though my health gets low. After tagging the last visible red, an Elite cry comes from somewhere ahead but I'm not sure where, and I'm up against the clock so I don't stop to think about it much. I advance into the tunnel and get a nasty shock when I hear an Elite behind. It's a red, hugging the wall in the corner! I expect he ended up there after diving to escape the frag I threw in. Maybe you noticed the reaction sound of an Elite trying to dive clear? I manage to kill him just in time. Glad I switched to that plasma rifle! May 2014 footage. Level 4, Legendary.

04:48 (Bad hiding place) While battling Banshees near the stream, I take shelter behind a tree but a Banshee swoops in on a splattering spree - and unfortunately I'm part of it! January 2011 footage from when I was recording for BCM26. Level 2, Legendary.

04:55 (Grunty wipeout) In this top pass defence in a dustbowl megabattle, I throw a couple of plasmas and get a good chain reaction which wipes out a whole lot of Grunts. Listen to those screams. August 2013 footage from when I was recording for BCM78. Level 3, Normal.

05:12 (Something in the wheels) While joyriding around the tower I take a little detour inside, and then make an exit via the balcony ramp, collecting a red Elite on the way. He seems to get rather caught up in the wheels, hee hee! Johnson's final line "Smoke 'em if you got 'em" helps make this a nice clip to end the movie with. August 2013 footage from when I was recording for BCM58. Level 5, Legendary.

Closing remarks I've still got a load of reserve footage for 'freakiness and fun' movies, so here's another one to start the new year. Should provide you with a few laughs - but then again, I hope they all do.

In this movie there were six clips from level 4, and although they weren't all from the same run through the level, I arranged them in level order, i.e. according to how far through the level the clips were.
