Commentary

00:02 (Play 1 - Gauntlet running evolved, plasma pistol & needler) Returning to the theme of running the gauntlet through the crowded side-passage, I realized I could do things in a more nifty way by hopping, rather than pausing to dodge the Hunters. This example play shows the technique well.

A further reason I selected this play from among others I recorded, is the later part where I face off against the Hunters in the main passage, and in particular, the bit where my needle bangs cause the second Hunter's shots to end up hitting the wall next to him, because he's getting rotated. An amusing business, which I don't recall having an example of in any movie before.

Note: to see a close-up example of a Hunter being rotated by a needle bang, see the bang that goes off around 1:33. Or the one around 3:28 for example.

02:32 (Play 2 - Plasma pistol & needler, fast) I won't call this an outright speed play, because if I was really going all out for speed, I don't think I'd be using the needler much. However, subject to using the needler plenty, I'm certainly going for an aggressive fast run here, and living dangerously in the process. There are some major explosions near the start, and I think my frag throw around 2:57 did an excellent clearing job on the Jackals far down the passage.

04:32 (Play 3 - Boarding room mischief) When I started playing about with the camo, I realized I could have some fun in the boarding room with Grunts and Jackals coming out to join the Hunters. I quickly got this example play, and went with it for the movie as it seemed quite entertaining, including a bit where I accidentally Grunt-bomb myself. I realised the danger there just after I tagged the Grunt. Almost got finished off by enemy fire after he exploded in my face, but luckily I survived and was able to get on with the passage horde battling proper.

Closing remarks During the movie I made good use of the spare needlers I'd positioned here and there. I've used similar spots in earlier set-ups. I learnt from my first set-up and modified a few things after that, but by now have come to settle on some favoured places. And although the spares are always subject to getting blasted somewhere else in battle, they generally enable me to keep up with a good amount of needling throughout, if I want to.

Stay tuned for what I think will be one last movie with this set-up!
